Hazel Joyce Saunders Stokes
   BURLINGTON — Mrs. Hazel Joyce Saunders Stokes, age 76, of 2202 McKinney Street, died Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at Alamance Health Care after several months of failing health.

   Born in Caswell County, she was the daughter of the late Loftin J. Saunders and the late Susie Faucette Saunders and was married for over 60 years to Bill Stokes, who survives. Mrs. Stokes was previously employed with Western Electric and was a faithful member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

   Mrs. Stokes is survived by her husband, of the home; two sons,Keith “Sandy” Stokes and his wife Cyndi of Burlington and Terry Stokes and his wife Jennifer of Burlington; five grandchildren, Patrick Stokes and his wife, Emily, Natalie Stokes, Michael Riddle, Alyssa Stokes and Thomas Stokes; a stepgrandchild, Jeff Ball; three great- grandchildren, Jackson Stokes, Elizabeth Stokes and Brandon Riddle; two greatstepgrandchildren, Michael Ball and Mattie Ball; and a brother, Percy Saunders of Charleston, S.C.

   She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Gladys Walker and Carnell Mays; and a brother, Carl Saunders.

   The funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, April 15, 2011 at Tabernacle Baptist Church by the Rev. Norman Fargis. Entombment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum.

   The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 Thursday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and at other times at the residence.

   Memorials may be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church, 515 N. Marshall Street, Graham, N.C. 27215.
