Nellie Rice Mahaley

PROVIDENCE — Nellie Rice Mahaley, 78, of 96 Easy St., died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at Durham Regional Hospital in Durham after seven months of declining health. Born Feb. 25, 1924 in Caswell County, she was the wife of Robert Lee Mahaley, who survives, and the daughter of the late James Franklin Rice and Ossie Massey Rice. Mrs. Mahaley lived most of her life in Caswell County and had resided in Providence since 1942. She was retired from Dan River Mills and was a member of Shady Oak Baptist Church, where she was active in the choir. Survivors other than her husband of the home include three sons, George Lee Mahaley of Pelham, James Robert Mahaley of Providence, and Wayne Thomas Mahaley of Yanceyville; three sisters, Edna McAdams and Thelma Farrington, both of Burlington, and Lena Mahaley of Yanceyville; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel, Danville, Va., by the Rev. Avery Marshall. Burial will be in Shady Oak Baptist Church cemetery, Walters Mill Road, Providence. The family will receive friends at Swicegood Funeral Home from 7 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the residence, 96 Easy Street, Providence. 3, Nellie Rice Mahaley
