BURLINGTON – Rufus J. Dale departed this life on Saturday, March 17, 2018 after a brief illness.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Russell, his parents, six siblings, and one grandson.

He is survived by his children Janice Pope (Brad) of Raleigh, Russell (Linda) of Burlington, Lisa Wetzel (Harold) of Raleigh, nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandsons.
Rufus was born near Burnsville, NC, May 13, 1931. He moved at age 15 to Alamance County to work with his father in a rock quarry.
He received a certificate from Technical Institute of Alamance (ACC) and worked as a loom-fixer in many textile mills in the Alamance and Guilford Counties for several years. He owned R. J. Dale Grocery with his wife Mary for nine years between 1968-1977.
Rufus loved fishing, Stock Car Racing and NASCAR. He enjoyed working as a truck driver and a welder as well. He was known for his quick wit and was great at story telling. He left an impression everywhere he went. He was loved by his family and will be greatly missed.
There will be a graveside service 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 - 8 p.m. Monday at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc.
