BURLINGTON — Robert Elmond Simmons , age 81, of 2404 Parrish Street, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 3, 2007. He was a native of Caswell County, and the husband of 56 years to Sarah Boswell Simmons , who survives.
Elmond retired from Annedeen Hosiery and was a member of First Christian Church. He was a former deacon and member of the Board of Trustees for many years at the church. Elmond enjoyed woodworking and was an avid golfer. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Boswell Simmons of the home; daughters and son-inlaw, Nancey Gean Simmons of Burlington and Darlene Simmons Watson and her husband, Bob, of Elon; son and daughter-in-law, Ronald Elmond Simmons and his wife, Lisa, of Burlington; grandchildren, Travis Lee Simmons and Paige Lowe Simmons ; brother and sister-in-law, William Roach Simmons Jr. and his wife, Sue, of Elon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Roach and Minnie Miles Simmons ; sisters, Dorothy Simmons Wilkins and Jane Simmons Tate.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, April 6, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Mark Nanney. Burial will follow at Stony Creek Presbyterian Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
