Sarah Boswell Simmons

February 5, 1931 - September 27, 2014


Burlington-Sarah Boswell Simmons, age 83 went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at the Hospice Home. She was born on February 5, 1931 in Alamance County to the late Edward "Edd" Levi Boswell and Annie Dula Beverly Boswell. She was the wife of the late Robert Elmond Simmons.

Sarah was employed for many years with Dan River Mills and she later retied from Carolina Biological Supply. She was an active member and Deacon of First Christian United Church of Christ in Burlington. During the 1960's she served as a Girl Scout Leader of Troop 54, Tar Heel Council at Edgewood United Church of Christ in Burlington. Sarah delighted at least three generations of children as the Halloween attraction of her neighborhood. She was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother and she loved to share her passions of painting, gardening, cooking and sewing with family and friends.

Sarah is survived by her daughters, Nancey Gean Simmons of Burlington and Darlene Simmons Watson and husband Bob of Elon and a son, Ronald Elmond Simmons of Burlington; grandson, Travis Lee Simmons of Graham and a granddaughter, Paige Lowe Simmons of Haw River. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Edna Garrison, Marvin Boswell, Betty Lea Jeffreys, Sonny and Bill Boswell.

The family would like to thank Sarah's many relatives, friends, church family members, neighbors and her medical staff for their outpouring of love and support during her illness.

A service to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Mark H. Pickett and the burial will follow at Stony Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home and other times at the home.
The family request that the "YaYa" Sisters and the A-O Class of 1950 sit together as honorary pallbearers.

Robert Elmond Simmons 

    BURLINGTON — Robert Elmond Simmons , age 81, of 2404 Parrish Street, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 3, 2007. He was a native of Caswell County, and the husband of 56 years to Sarah Boswell Simmons , who survives.

    Elmond  retired from Annedeen Hosiery and was a member of First Christian Church. He was a former deacon and member of the Board of Trustees for many years at the church.

Elmond  enjoyed woodworking and was an avid golfer. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

    Survivors include his wife, Sarah Boswell Simmons  of the home; daughters and son-inlaw, Nancey Gean Simmons  of Burlington and Darlene Simmons  Watson and her husband, Bob, of Elon; son and daughter-in-law, Ronald Elmond Simmons  and his wife, Lisa, of Burlington; grandchildren, Travis Lee Simmons  and Paige Lowe Simmons ; brother and sister-in-law, William Roach Simmons  Jr. and his wife, Sue, of Elon.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, William Roach and Minnie Miles Simmons ; sisters, Dorothy Simmons  Wilkins and Jane Simmons  Tate.

    The funeral service will be held on Friday, April 6, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Mark Nanney. Burial will follow at Stony Creek Presbyterian Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
