ELON — Mrs. Margaret Leath Simmons, 87, 2680 Milesville Road, Elon entered her heavenly home on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013 following several months of failing health.
A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of the late Earl J. Simmons and the daughter of Daniel Otis Leath and Stella Patterson Leath, both deceased. She was a secretary for Matkins Meat Processors for 40 years. Margaret was a member of Kerr’s Chapel Baptist Church where she was treasurer for 20 years and also sang in the choir. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, Battle of Alamance.
Survivors include her son, Dennis A. Simmons and wife Mary of Caswell County; three grandchildren, Jamie S. Cozart and husband Tim, Kiley S. Hooper and husband David and Ashley C. Simmons, all of Caswell County; four great-grandchildren, Kelsie Hooper, Presley Cozart, Avery Cozart and Kenley Hooper; a brother, Robert “Bobby” Otis Leath and wife Ann of Caswell County; and a daughter-in-law, Sherry Simmons of Caswell County.
She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Gary Simmons and two brothers, Daniel E. Leath and Howard W. Leath.
The funeral service will be conducted at Kerr’s Chapel Baptist Church on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013 at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Norman Harris and the Rev. Jimmy Nickelston. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Rich &Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. At other times they will be at the home of her son, Dennis Simmons, 2820 Milesville Road, Elon, N.C.
