GIBSONVILLE — Mr. Kenneth Marshall Gerringer, 51, of 214 Circle Drive, died at 12:10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999, at the Hospice Home in Burlington after 18 months of failing health of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Lou Gehrig’s disease.

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Stella Steele Gerringer, who survives, and the son of Mr. Leo Everette Gerringer and Mrs. Mary Alene Tysinger Gerringer, who survive. He was retired after 28 years with the U.S. Postal Service. He had served on the Gibsonville Planning Board and was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in Okinawa.

He was a member of Ossipee Baptist Church where he formerly served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, choir director and trustee.

Survivors other than his wife of the home and his parents of Ossipee include one daughter, Mrs. Jimmy (Tammy) G. Whitesell of Burlington; one son, Senior Airman Kenneth M. Gerringer Jr. of Pope Air Force Base, Fayetteville; one sister, Mrs. Aura Faye Simpson of Graham; a maternal grandmother, Mrs. Marie Tysinger of Elon College; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Roger Dale Gerringer.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ossipee Baptist Church by the Rev. Carl Kincaid, pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 5 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home.
