Leo Everett Gerringer

ELON — Leo Everett Gerringer, 82, formerly of Lucas Street, died Saturday, March 9, 2002 at Liberty Commons after one month of failing health.

A native of Guilford County, he was the son of the late H. R. Gerringer and the late Venie M. Gerringer and was the husband of the late Alene Tysinger Gerringer.

Mr. Gerringer was a former employee of Hole-in-None Hosiery, a volunteer fireman for Altamahaw-Ossipee Fire Department and was a member of Ossipee Baptist Church, where he was a former Deacon, Choir Director and Sunday School Teacher. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and recipient of the Purple Heart.

Survivors include a daughter, Aura Faye Simpson and her husband, Gary of Burlington; Four grandchildren, six great grandchildren; sisters, Edna Leonard of Greensboro and Earlie Mae Tuggle of California; and brothers, Johnny and Doc Gerringer, both of
Gibsonville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and two sons, Roger Dale Gerringer and Kenneth Marshall Gerringer Sr.

The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Ossipee Baptist Church by the Rev. Carl Kincaid, pastor.

Interment will follow at Apple’s Chapel Christian Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. tonight at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the daughter’s home, 3137 Bellemont-Mt. Hermon Church Road, Burlington.

Mr. Gerringer will remain at the funeral home until taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.
