Vance Jackson “Jack” Summers

    GIBSONVILLE — Mr.Vance Jackson “Jack” Summers, 84, of 6733 N.C. 61 North, passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2009, at the Carriage House. Mr. Summers was born July 26, 1925, in Guilford County to the late J.H. and Lydia Shepherd Summers. Mr. Summers was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired as a cook from Guilford County Prison Farm and a member of Friedens Lutheran Church. He was instrumental in forming the Fire District # 28 Volunteer Fire Dept. and was the chief there for many years.
    He enjoyed farming, pier fishing, serving as a volunteer fireman, western square dancing, church activities and eating out before Alzheimers set in.
    Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Doris Osborne Summers, of the home; sons, Dean (Bonnie) Summers and Randy (Doris Ann) Summers, both of Gibsonville; grandchildren, Amby Jordan, Clint Summers, Dusty Summers, Dakota Summers; four great-grandchildren; a brother, George (Mamie) Summers, of Gibsonville; sisters, Mae Lewis and Ruby Huffines, both of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Willie “Bill” Summers.
    The funeral will be held 4 p.m. Saturday at Friedens Lutheran Church by Pastor Raymond Petrea. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
    The family will receive friends 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. and at other times at the home.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friedens Lutheran Church, 6001 N.C. 61 North, Gibsonville, N.C. 27249 or Hospice at Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, N.C. 27405.
