Doris Osborne Summers
GIBSONVILLE — Doris Osborne Summers, 86, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015, at Ashton Place. Doris was born in Wapallo County, Iowa on Feb. 22, 1928, to the late Graham Emery and Beulah Etter Osborne and was the wife of 59 years to the late Vance Jackson “Jack” Summers.
Doris was a longtime member of Friedens Lutheran Church. She retired from the Guilford County Tax Office after 36 years and was a founding member of Fire District 28 Ladies Auxiliary. Doris was a member of Chrismon Classes at GTCC and taught Chrismon classes at Friedens Lutheran Church. She was also a member of Bucks and Does Square Dancers and did volunteer work at Alamance Regional Medical Center. She was a loving mother, MawMaw and “Gate” Maw-Maw who will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her two sons, Vance Dean Summers and wife Bonnie of Greensboro and Randy Neal Summers and wife Doris Ann of Gibsonville; grandchildren, Amber Jordan and fiancé Keith Hudson, Clint Summers and wife Christy, Dusty Summers and wife Erin and Dakota Summers; great- grandchildren, Omar Jordan, Tripp Jordan, ZoieAnn Jordan, Sydnee Summers and Savannah Summers; brothers, George Osborne of Summerfield and Harry Osborne and wife Linda of Stokesdale; sisters, Ruth Fulton of Stokesdale and Thelma McQueen of Florida and her special cat, “Missy”.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, seven brothers and four sisters.
A service to celebrate her life will be held 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015, at Friedens Lutheran Church by Pastor Bill Zima with the burial to follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.on Saturday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and at other times at the home.
