William H. Kernodle


SALISBURY - Mr. William H. Kernodle, 94, of Salisbury, NC passed away Monday, August 14, 2017 at Carillon Assisted Living Center.
He was born September 28, 1922 in Alamance Co, NC to the late Roy W. and Sallie Jones Kernodle.

Mr. Kernodle served in the Navy during WWII. He graduated from Elon College in 1949.

He retired from the NC Dept. of Revenue in 1988 after 39 years of service.

Mr. Kernodle was a member of Coburn Memorial United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Ruth Ellen Randolph Kernodle in 2010 and his brother, Staley Kernodle.

Surviving is his daughter, Emily K. Connolly and husband Roger of Wading River, NY; three grandchildren: April Zay and husband Brian of Hamilton, New Jersey, Wendy Mullikin and husband Ethan of Santa Clara, CA, and Brien Connolly and wife Amy of Central Square, NY; four great-grandchildren; Elijah and Gabriel Zay and Finnian and Alina Connolly; brother, Wayne Kernodle of Elon, NC; sister, Jane McPherson of Elon, NC and a sister Nancy Sain of Burlington, NC and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. – Noon Tuesday, August 22 at Summersett Funeral Home.

Graveside service with military honors provided by the Rowan County Honor Guard will follow at noon in City Memorial Park cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Coburn Memorial Methodist Church, 901 S. Church St., Salisbury, NC 28144.
