John Henry Massey
August 27, 1930 — February 21, 2024
Burlington, NC

John Henry Massey, 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at ARMC.  

He was born in Caswell County to the late Preston Phillip and Maggie Oakley Massey and was married for 68 years to Bobbie Mae Kernodle Massey who survives.

John was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.  He was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church and was previously employed by Carolina Paper Box Company and Old Dominion Paper.  John was a Shriner and a member of the Honshu Lodge No. 8 AF & AM, Kunitachi, Japan.  He enjoyed working on the farm, doing yardwork and taking care of the flowers with his wife.   John was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who especially enjoyed spending time with all his grandchildren.
 
He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Mae, children, Johnny Massey, Jimmy Massey, Margaret Massey Dickey and husband Mike, Bobbie Ann Massey; grandchildren, Jonathan Massey and his wife Melissa, Preston Massey and his wife Samantha, Tommy Massey, Jessica Smith and her husband Caleb; great grandchildren, Jonathan Massey, Jr., Laila Massey, Tessa Mae Smith, Tallulah Jean Smith, Chris Tart and his wife Emily, Matthew and Michael Beagle.  

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Rosaline Stegall, Mae Rudd, Polly Hillard, Mildred Copeland and brothers, Preston “Buck”, Ray, Melvin, Millard and Reid Massey.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Bethlehem Christian Church by pastor Daren Ritchey with burial to follow in the church cemetery.   The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 Friday evening at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory and at other times at the home.

The family would like to say a special “Thank You” to all the nurses and staff at ARMC.
