OBITUARIES Mrs. Margaret Jeffreys Leath
GREENSBORO — Mrs. Margaret Jeffreys Leath, 84, a wonderful mother and superb wife, of 218 S. Park Drive, Greensboro, and a recent Burlington resident, died Monday, January 26, 2004, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a two-week critical illness.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 31, 2004, at the First Presbyterian Church Chapel, Burlington and conducted by the Rev. Dr. Ronald Shive.
She was born in Graham, N.C., daughter of the late John Heenan Jeffreys and the late Mary Cates Jeffreys. Margaret was an "A" student and attended the class of 1936 at Elon University. During World War II, she was employed by the University of California, Berkley, in the accounting department. She was a strong wife of 65 years to her loving husband, William J. Leath Sr. As a founding member of the Alamance Country Club and the Goose and Gander Club, she worked for the community also as a PTA leader, Cub Scout leader, and Sunday school teacher. She was a true gentlewoman and a lady known for her tact and gracious manners. Margaret was an excellent golfer and a fine shot with a rifle. She was a gourmet cook with a sparkling wit and a loving smile. Margaret loved her family, home, and community. She had an abiding faith in God, bolstered by the First Presbyterian Church of Burlington.
She is survived by her two wonderful sisters, Mrs. Peggy Teer of Graham and Mrs. Eula Wellons of Burlington; three sons, Mr. Jim Leath and wife, Angie, of Greensboro, Mr. Cliff Leath and wife, Lynn, of Chapel Hill, and Mr. Jeff Leath and wife, Patti, of Charleston, S.C.; and nine grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.
