Morris Donald McPherson
BURLINGTON — Morris Donald McPherson, of Burlington, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 16, 2012.
A native of Alamance County, he is survived by his wife Ginny McPherson and was the son of the late William Ivan and Gertrude Sharpe McPherson. He began his career as a police officer in 1968 for the Alamance County Sheriff’s Department and retired in 2001 as Chief of Police for the Town of Gibsonville. In 2002, he rejoined the Sheriff’s Department as Chief Deputy Sheriff and retired in 2009. Throughout his career, he was also a devoted softball and basketball coach, enjoyed working on automobiles, was an avid Carolina fan, and loved the outdoors.
In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include two daughters, Holly McPherson of Snow Camp and Christman McPherson of Burlington; a son, Philip Howard of Chapel Hill; an aunt, Hazel Sharpe of Burlington; an uncle, Bill Brintle of Burlington; and a large extended family.
The Rev. Richard Booker, the Rev. Jim Folks and the Rev. Alvin Horne will conduct the funeral service at Rock Creek United Methodist Church on Friday at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. At other times they will be at the residence.
