GREENSBORO - Pauline "Polly" Apple drifted into her Lord's arms Sunday January 28, 2007.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on January 31, at Apple's Chapel Christian Church. Interment will immediately follow in the church cemetery. The service will be lead by Rev. Dale Kennedy and Rev. Allen Myers.
Mrs. Apple was a true example of Christian love. Her faith, love, caring, and generosity was evident in all she did and to all whose lives she touched.
She was born October 2, 1916, in Rockingham County. She was the daughter of Jimmy and Betty French.
She married Harvey E. Apple in October 1934.
The Lord blessed her with many gifts which she used in her roles as a wife, mother and devoted member of Apple's Chapel Christian Church. She served her church community as a Sunday School teacher for 40 years, and reached out to members who were unable to attend by sending cards and visiting the sick and shut-in. She showed her love to her family by using her talents to sew clothing, quilt, grow beautiful flowers, and cook.
She had a wonderful sense of humor and a playful and comical nature. Her grin would light up her face and put a twinkle in her eye. Her smiles and laughter were contagious, and would bring brightness and warmth to our hearts.
Mrs. Apple led many people to her Lord through her example of unconditional love and kindness. One of her proudest accomplishments was reading through the entire Bible thirteen times, and she wanted to share her faith with as many as she could.
Mrs. Apple was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey E. Apple; grandson, David W. Rayle; sisters, Maggie Langley, Anna Bell Thompson and Carrie Foster; and brothers, Willie French, George French, and Lawrence French.
She leaves to honor and cherish her memory three daughters, Peggy Rayle (Cotton) of McLeansville, Betty Sutton (Bud) of Gibsonville, and Charlene Apple Cheek (Roger) of Greensboro; and a son, Larry Apple (Nettie) of Gibsonville. She also leaves sisters, Autrude Isley and Florence Moore both of Reidsville; brother, Robert French of Hawthorne, Calif.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; loving caregivers, Betty Graves, Libby Donnell, and Jeanette Apple; devoted neighbors, Sally and Leonard Tysor; and many dear friends and family.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Apple's Chapel Christian Church.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude for the loving care and concern provided by the doctors and staff of Moses Cone Hospice and Palliative Care. The comfort she received during this time refreshed and renewed her spirit, as well as her family's. Proverbs 31
She is clothed in strength and dignity She can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom and faithful instruction is on her tongue Her children arise and call her blessed. Many women do noble things, but You surpass them all.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro at 2500 Summit Ave. Greensboro N.C. 27405; or the Missions Fund of Apple's Chapel Christian Church at 7345 N. North Carolina 61 Highway, Gibsonville, N.C. 27249.
