Wanda Lynn Gilliam Jones

ELON - Wanda Lynn Gilliam Jones, 66, of Elon, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2020. A native of Burlington, NC, Wanda was the daughter of Worth Turner Gilliam and Frances Boswell Gilliam, both deceased. Wanda received her degrees from Lees McRae College and Elon College. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from both institutions. Wanda was a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society and received the President’s scholarship from Elon College. Wanda taught Physical Education at R. Homer Andrews Elementary School and Biology at Southern Alamance High School. She also worked for 30 years at Scott Clinic as a pharmacy technician. Wanda finished her career as a special education assistant and bus driver at AO Elementary School.
Wanda was a lifetime member of Union Ridge Church. She was a faithful member of the Ridge Runners Sunday School Class and chancel choir. Her church family was an integral part of who Wanda was as a person.

Wanda leaves loving and lasting memories to her husband of 46 years, Blake Jones and two children, Derek and wife Tiffany Jones; Carmen and husband Ashlee McKeon; and four grandchildren. Noah Jones, Ben Jones, Connor McKeon, and Chandler McKeon were the shining lights of her day. She is also survived by her brothers, Bob Gilliam (Velma) and Freddie Gilliam, and a sister, Sarah Faucette (Fred), as well as multiple nieces and nephews. Wanda was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She was a beautiful soul who loved her family unconditionally and put others before herself.
Wanda’s life revolved around her church, family, friends, and especially those grandchildren. She loved sports of every kind and was an avid Atlanta Braves fanatic. If one of her grandboys were participating in a sporting event, you better believe she was going to be on the sideline or in the bleachers.
The service to celebrate her life will be 2:00 PM Saturday at Union Ridge Church by Pastor Dan Ficklin. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 – 2:00 before the service. The family will receive friends at the home of Blake Jones. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Union Ridge Church. Online condolences may be sent to
