BURLINGTON — Nellie Lou Rascoe Chandler, 75, of 338 McCray Road, died at 12:50 a.m. Friday, May 16, 2003, at the Presbyterian Home of Hawfields.
A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Ollie Ector Rascoe, and the wife of Henry Graham Chandler of the home. A retired bookkeeper, she was a lifelong member of Union Ridge United Church of Christ where she was a Sunday school teacher, assistant Sunday school superintendent, youth counselor, assistant treasurer of the church and a member of the Richard Jackson Circle.
Survivors other than her husband include a daughter, Becky (Dean) Whitlow, of Easley, S.C.; a son, Henry A. (Loraine) Chandler, of Burlington; a sister, Lillian Bowland, of Burlington; a brother, Levi Rascoe, of Burlington; and grandchildren Michael Whitlow and Elizabeth Whitlow of Easley, S.C.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Union Ridge United Church of Christ by the Rev. Phil Hardy and the Rev. John Settlemyre. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church following the service and at other times at the residence of Henry. A. Chandler, 515 Lewis Graham Road in Burlington. Memorials may be made to the Union Ridge United Church of Christ Building Fund, 115 Altamahaw-Union Ridge Road, Burlington, N.C., 27217.
