Hortense  Y. Holmes 
    BURLINGTON — Mrs. Hortense  Y. Holmes , 86, of 2202 F-3 Huntington Road, Burlington, died at Alamance Regional Medical Center on Sunday, June 19, 2005 at 11:50 a.m.
    A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late James Odell "Pete" Holmes , and the daughter of Herbert Sharp York  and Flora Alice Lynch York , both deceased. She was employed by J. Spencer Love and retired as a shipping clerk from Tower Hosiery. She was a volunteer at Alamance Memorial Hospital and Alamance Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Holmes  was a member of Davis Street United Methodist Church.
    Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. June H. Stewart and husband, Robert, of Elon; three sons, Mr. Jack A. Holmes  and wife, Carol, of Durham, Mr. Jerry R. Holmes  of Las Vegas, and Mr. Kenneth A. Holmes  and wife, Janice, of Harrisburg; six grandchildren, Reid, Leslie, Kristopher, Kelli, Bryan, and Jennifer; and six great-grandchildren.
    In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her stepmother by whom she was raised, Mrs. Eva York ; and three brothers; and two sisters.
    The funeral service will be conducted at Davis Street United Methodist Church on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. by the Rev. Jerry Dodson. Burial will follow the service in Pine Hill Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
    The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 to 8 p.m., today, and at other times they will be at the residence of the daughter, June Stewart, 1210 Candlewood Drive, Elon, N.C.
