Mr. Jackie A. 'Jack' Holmes, 82 passed away Saturday, February 12, 2022.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of the late Carol Oakley Holmes and the son of Mr. J.O. "Pete" Holmes and Hortense York Holmes, both deceased.
Mr. Holmes was a graduate of Elon College with a degree in Journalism. Jack spent the majority of his career as a staff reporter for various newspapers and retired from the Durham Herald Newspaper. Among Jackie's interests were fishing at the North Carolina coast, and traveling with his wife, Carol. After the passing of his beloved wife, Carol, Jack was a good friend and neighbor to many. In his late years he became more limited due to his fight with cancer. But he still enjoyed watching football, old western movies, taking walks, yard work, and meals out with special friends and visits from family.
Survivors include his daughter, Leslie and a grandson and granddaughter. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. June Holmes Stewart and husband Bob. As well as a brother, Mr. Ken Holmes and wife Janice. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Holmes
