Obituary Online notes for Glenwood Thomas IVEY Sr.
Glenwood T. Ivey, formerly of Salisbury and resided in the Lake Norman area of
Catawba, N.C. passed away Thursday, September 17th, 2020 with his loving daughter by his
side.
Mr. Ivey was born August 21st in Hopedale, N.C. in a two room millhouse to the late Ernest and Pearl Ivey.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Delaine Ivey, and his daughter, Sherita Ann Ivey-Myers.
He attended Alamance County High School and graduated from Salisbury/Rowan Community College with an Associate in Business Degree. He was a member of the Harold B. Jarrett American Legion, 40/8, Shriners Organizations. Salisbury Masonic and Catawba Masonic Lodge he was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Freemason, Former Member and President of the Numismatic Association in Wilmington, NC. One of his greatest accomplishments was being a Golden Gloves Boxer in the US Navy with150 undefeated fights and he served on the USS Iowa and the USS Albany under Republican Senator McCain’s father being his skipper. He was inducted into the Carolina’s Boxing Hall of Fame in 1993 and served as Chairman of the Board for over 13 years. He was former President of Keep America Beautiful in Wilmington and Served and marched in the Drum and Bugle Corp in Wilmington. Former City Council Member for Kure Beach, NC.He was a member of Mt. Anderson Baptist Church in Maiden, NC where he sang in choir and was a soloist as well. He enjoyed traveling, especially the beach and our outings to California and Idaho to visit his sons. He was the Karaoke King of NMB and Little River where he had a following of fans.
Survivors of the home, a daughter Dawn M. Ivey of Lake Norman, NC, 2 sons Michael C. Ivey and wife Wahida of Boise, Idaho, Glennwood T. Ivey, Jr and wife Meybol of Hidden Valley Lake, California. 5 Grandchildren, Justin Ivey, Lauren Ivey of Boise, Idaho and Mabel Ivey, and Glennwood T. Ivey, III (born on Dad’s Birthday) both of Hidden Valley Lake, California. Eric Myers, from Mobile, Alabama, 1 Great Granddaughter, Miranda Myers of Mobile, Alabama and 1 Great, Great Grandson Henry Sanchez of Mobile, Alabama.
The family will receive friends and family at 1:00 pm Mt. Anderson Baptist Church Maiden NC, and then proceeding to Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Salisbury, NC for Full Military and Masonic Burial at 3:00pm.
