BURLINGTON — Thelma Ward Strader Summers, age 86, of 3065 Durham St., Ext. passed away Monday December 20, 2010.
A native of Orange County, she was the daughter of the late Dewey Snead and Pearl Ward and the wife of the late Samuel Strader and Willie B. Summers. She was a longtime member of McLeansville Baptist Church. She spent most of her life cooking, tending her children and beloved grandchildren.
Mrs. Summers is survived by her daughter, Brenda Murphy and husband Richard; son, Dana “Doc’ Strader, all of Burlington; stepsons, Boyd Summers and Linda of Burlington and Jerry Summers and wife Glenda of Gibsonville; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and eight siblings, Reba Mae Eastwood, Luvenia Barber, Nora Perdue, Eligah Ward, Tim Ward, Luther “Buck” Ward, Stephen Ward and Louis Ward.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday December 23, 2010 at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jack Lemons and the Rev. Nila Souther. Interment will follow in Berea Christian Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Summers will remain at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory through the funeral service. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday and at other times at the residence.
