Gurney  Robert Gilmore  Sr.


    BURLINGTON — Mr. Gurney  Robert Gilmore  Sr., age 89, beloved father and grandfather, of 1620 Elder Way, passed away Thursday, July 26, 2007, at Duke University Medical Center following a brief illness.
    A native of Alamance County, he was a World War II veteran and retired from Burlington Industries with 46 years of service. He was a longtime member of the First Reformed United Church of Christ where he was past deacon and active in the Men’s Class for over 50 years. Mr. Gilmore  also served as a Meals on Wheels volunteer.
    Survivors include his daughter, Deborah Gilmore  Huffman and husband, Bill, of Winston-Salem; his son, Gurney  Robert "Bobby" Gilmore  Jr., of Burlington; his very special granddaughter, Christina Lee Huffman, of Greensboro; his brother, K. Aubrey Gilmore , of Columbia, S.C.; four sisters, Mildred Forrester, Mary Smith, Betty Rainey, and Margaret Grant, all of Burlington; brothers-in-law, Roy Grant, Jr. of Burlington and John H. "Nookie" Coleman and wife, Raymail Coleman, of Greer, S.C.; sisters-in-law, Peggy Cobb Gilmore  and Louise May Gilmore , both of Burlington; and 11 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert S. Gilmore  and Minnie Lee Waddell Gilmore , his wife, Inez Coleman Gilmore , and three brothers, Cecil Gilmore , N. M. Gilmore , and Ben Gilmore .
    Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 29, 2007, at the First Reformed United Church of Christ by the Rev. Phil Myers. Interment will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery.
    The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2007.
