Obituary Online notes for “Bob” Robert Corbett RUMLEY
Robert "Bob" Corbett Rumley, 87, of 54 Oak Ridge Ave, Danville VA died on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at Danville Regional Medical Center after being in declining health for the past month.
Mr. Rumley was born on July 18, 1923 in Guilford County, NC a son of the late Russell Rumley and the late Effie Gerringer Rumley. He spent most of his life in NC where he worked for Air Conditioning Inc. as a manager. He served his country in the US Army and fought in WWII. During his time in the army he received various awards that included the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, Bronze Star, Purple Heart and the Good Conduct Ribbon. He was a lifetime member of the DAV and Post 325 and he was of the Baptist faith.
On July 10, 1975 he married Barbara Clay Rumley who survives of the residence.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Rumley is survived by two daughters and two sons; a step son Davis Martines (Vicky) of Vinton, VA; three sister-in-laws, Julia Hooper (Nelson) of Roanoke, VA., Becky Rumley of Gibsonville, NC and Connie Clay, a brother Alton Rumley (Grace) of Gibsonville, NC; a sister Polly Shaw of Burlington, NC; special friends, Dee and Tommy Lynskey, Linda Ligon, and Pam Fuquay; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
