Ruby Pickrell Simpson
BURLINGTON — Ruby Pickrell Simpson, 75 of Burlington passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at her home.
She was born in Rockingham County and was the daughter of the late George Luther and Virginia Knowles Pickrell.
She was married for 53 years to Carl
F. Simpson who survives. Ruby retired from Stevenson and Vestal and was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. She had a passion for cooking and collecting recipes.
She is survived by her husband of the home; daughter, Linda (Kenneth) Rivers of Burlington; sons, Ronald Simpson and Donald Simpson, both of Burlington and her niece who was more like a sister, Margaret Jennielane Pennington.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Roy Pickrell, Melvin Pickrell, Frances P. Garrison and Ruth P. Simpson.
The funeral will be held at 2:00PM Wednesday at Bethel United Methodist Church by Rev. Stewart Crank and Rev. Dave Gilbert with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 Tuesday evening at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the home.

Carl Freeland Simpson

Carl Freeland Simpson, 90, passed away at his home on Sunday, July 21, 2024. A native of Alamance County, he was the son of the late Euliss Ervin and Mary “Sadie” Ross Simpson and was married to Ruby Pickrell Simpson, who passed in 2014.
Carl retired from Burlington Industries and was a former member of Bethel United Methodist Church where he worshiped for many years. He enjoyed spending time in his garden and then sharing the fruits of his labors for others to enjoy.
Carl is survived by his two sons; Ronald Simpson and Donald Simpson and his wife, Juliana.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Simpson, daughter; Linda Rivers, parents; Euliss and Sadie Simpson as well as his siblings; Pansy Mansfield, Lula Mae Kernodle and Lester Simpson.
A funeral service to celebrate Carl’s life will be held at 2:00PM on Friday, July 26, 2024 in the chapel at Lowe Funeral Home by Rev. Laura Dunlap with the burial to follow at Bethel Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 – 1:45 prior to the service at the funeral home.
