Tessie Marie Wigington Carden, 79, of Burlington went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Alamance Regional Medical Center surrounded by her family.

A native of Rockingham county, she was the loving wife of 48 years to Bobby Carden, who survives and the daughter of Randolph Jefferson Wigington and Rosa Shough Wigington, both deceased. Marie was one of twelve children.

She retired from Ed Alexander Fabrics, where she worked as a knitter for several years. Marie was a member of Baptist Temple Church.

Marie had a heart of gold and a beautiful soul. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed every minute she had with them. She loved the holidays and hosting the meals for her family in her home. She was a wonderful wife, mama, grandmama, great-grandmama, sister and friend to so many.

In addition to her husband of their home, survivors include a daughter, Maria Riley and her husband Donald; son, Barry Joe Martin; seven grandchildren, Tiffany Trimble and her husband Kyle, Barry "Brother" Kellis, Jr. and his wife Brandi, Christina Martin, Makayla Best and her husband Tucker, Joseph Martin, Robert Huffines and Jonathan Huffines; 13 great grandchildren; sister, Linda Oakley and her husband Jerry; many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her son, Daniel Kaiser Huffines; grandson, Daniel K. Huffines, Jr.; three brothers, William Ray Wigington, Leonard Mason Wigginton, Randolph Hughes Wigington; and seven sisters, Hazel Overman, Annie Katherine Wigington, Eva Louise Dickens Lindley, Vera Cox Penn, Era Jane “Brownie” Cantrell, Virginia Turner Hefner and Nancy Walker “Cowboy” Skenes.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 28, 2024 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Rich & Thompson Funeral Home in Burlington.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 29, 2024 at Friendship Church at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
