James Weldon "Joe" Andrews
ELON — James Weldon "Joe" Andrews, 94, of 215 S. Williamson Ave., died Friday, April 23, 2004, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
A native of Alamance County, he was the son of the late Willie Anderson Andrews and the late Maggie Baulding Andrews and was married to Mrs. Doris Turney Andrews, who survives.
He was retired from Kayser-Roth with over 20 years of service and was a U. S. Army veteran that served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Mr. Andrews was a member of Peoples Memorial Christian Church and was involved in the Men’s Sunday school class. He was also a charter member of First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Andrews is survived by his wife of the home; along with a son, Ed Andrews and his wife, Beverly, of Greensboro; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Janet Troxler and her husband, Earl, of Elon; a stepson, Troy Turney and his wife, Cornelia, of Burlington; a granddaughter, Lisa Andrews; seven stepgrandchildren, Rick Troxler, Teresa Rudd, Donna Moricle, Barry Turney, Tammy Page, Greg Turney and Craig Turney; two sisters, Mrs. Willie (Mable) Long and Mrs. Marvin (Lucille) Rice, both of Burlington; and two brothers, Luther Andrews and Vernon Andrews, both of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Effie Fuquay Andrews, who died in 1985; both parents; a stepmother, Mrs. Rochina Stewart Andrews; a grandson, Jonathan Lee Andrews; a sister, Mrs. Beulah Yarborough; and a brother, Jessie Morris Andrews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 25, 2004, at Peoples Memorial Christian Church by the Rev. John Shields. Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory from 6 to 8 this evening, and other times at the home.

A native of Mercer County, W.Va., she was the wife of the late Claude D. Turney and James Weldon Andrews and the daughter of Fred Hurst and Dolly Harmon Hurst , both deceased.
She was a retired textile employee. She was a member of Peoples Memorial Christian Church and the Macie May Sunday School Class.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Janet T. Troxler and husband, Earl of Burlington; one son, Mr. Troy H. Turney and wife, Cornelia of Burlington; one stepson, Mr. Ed Andrews and wife, Beverly of Greensboro; two brothers, Mr. Don Hurst and wife, Peggy of Burlington and Mr. Paul Hurst and wife, June of Charmco, W.Va.; seven grandchildren, Rick Troxler, Teresa T. Rudd, Donna T. Moricle, Barry Turney , Tammy T. The funeral will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Monday, May 7, 2007, at 11 a.m. by the Rev. John Shields. Burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Mortuary in Burlington this evening from 6 until 8 p.m. Other times they will be at the residence of the daughter, Janet Troxler, 429 Spring Valley Drive, Burlington, N.C and at the residence of the son, Troy H. Turney , 3848 Danieley Water Wheel Road, Burlington, N.C.
