James Weldon "Joe" Andrews

    ELON — James Weldon "Joe" Andrews, 94, of 215 S. Williamson Ave., died Friday, April 23, 2004, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

    A native of Alamance County, he was the son of the late Willie Anderson Andrews and the late Maggie Baulding Andrews and was married to Mrs. Doris Turney Andrews, who survives.

He was retired from Kayser-Roth with over 20 years of service and was a U. S. Army veteran that served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Mr. Andrews was a member of Peoples Memorial Christian Church and was involved in the Men’s Sunday school class. He was also a charter member of First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.

    Mr. Andrews is survived by his wife of the home; along with a son, Ed Andrews and his wife, Beverly, of Greensboro; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Janet Troxler and her husband, Earl, of Elon; a stepson, Troy Turney and his wife, Cornelia, of Burlington; a granddaughter, Lisa Andrews; seven stepgrandchildren, Rick Troxler, Teresa Rudd, Donna Moricle, Barry Turney, Tammy Page, Greg Turney and Craig Turney; two sisters, Mrs. Willie (Mable) Long and Mrs. Marvin (Lucille) Rice, both of Burlington; and two brothers, Luther Andrews and Vernon Andrews, both of Burlington.

    He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Effie Fuquay Andrews, who died in 1985; both parents; a stepmother, Mrs. Rochina Stewart Andrews; a grandson, Jonathan Lee Andrews; a sister, Mrs. Beulah Yarborough; and a brother, Jessie Morris Andrews.

    The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 25, 2004, at Peoples Memorial Christian Church by the Rev. John Shields. Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory from 6 to 8 this evening, and other times at the home.
