Willie P. Long
BURLINGTON — Mr. Willie P. Long, 98½, of the Village at Brookwood, Burlington, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2015, at 10 p.m.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of 76 years to the late Mabel Andrews Long and the son of John W. Long and Bertie Mae Faulkner Long, both deceased. He was retired owner and operator of John
W. Long & Sons Sand, Stone and Excavation.
Mr. Long was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Burlington and the Open Door Sunday School Class. He was a charter member of the Antique Automobile Club of America, Alamance Chapter and was a former member of the Board of Directors for the Faucette Township Volunteer Fire Department. He was active with his “Friends at the Village at Brookwood.”
He was a loving father to two daughters, Willie Faye Long and Judy Long Pennington, both of Burlington; grandchildren, Jay L. Harden, Elizabeth Harden Ball, Anne Harden Connolly and husband Jeff and Catherine Hinkle Austin and husband Tim; great-grandchildren, Jessica Anne Ball, William Ball, Sarah Ball, Mason Connolly, Reynolds Connolly, Laura Austin, James Austin, Thomas Austin, Caroline Austin and Benjamin Austin; two special cousins, John E. Long and wife Betty and Billy T. Long and wife Helen; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a stepmother, Lola Perry Long and two brothers, Vestal Long and Dace Long.
A Service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Burlington on Friday, Feb. 20, 2015, at 11 a.m. by Dr. Ronald L. Shive and the Rev. Peter Thompson. Burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park.
Pallbearers include William Ball, Jeff Connolly, Scottie Long, Earl Overman, Reynolds Connolly, James Austin and Thomas Austin and honorary pallbearers include members of the “Friends at Village at Brookwood” and the Antique Automobile Club of America, Alamance Chapter.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m.
The family wishes to extend their special thanks to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell.
