Pearl McLelland
BURLINGTON — Mrs. Pearl C. McLelland, 88, of 2018 Nottingham Lane, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at her residence.
A native of Alamance County, Pearl was the wife of D. Marsh McLelland, retired superior court judge, who survives, and the daughter of the late Wyatt Abram Clapp and the late Bessie Baulding Clapp.
Pearl was very active in her community, and her special gift was her ability to take care of others. She was a member of the Democratic Women of Alamance County and the Senior Democrats of Alamance. She was an avid supporter of Loaves & Fishes and the Gallery Players. She and her husband, Marsh, were recipients of the Gallery Players Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010.
A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Pearl is survived by her husband, Marsh, of the home; her daughters, Dale Marshall Hooper and her husband Clem, of Caswell County, Anne Marshall Pope, of Burlington; her stepchildren, David M. McLelland Jr., of Acworth, Ga., Jane McLelland, of Graham, Joseph W. McLelland and his wife Juliette, of Charlotte, Faye M. Basto, of Greensboro, Lewis C. Clemmer and his wife Joyce, Louise C. Sharpe and her husband Gary, Lawrence R. Clemmer and his wife Ann, and Linda C. Sharpe and her husband Darryl, all of Burlington; her granddaughter,Tonya H. Slawson and her husband James; four grandchildren, Alex J. Pilkington and her husband Aaron, Zachary Johnson, Meredith J. Clapp and Andrew Johnson and three great-greatgrandchildren, Bryson Clapp, Mason Clapp and Zoey Pilkington. Mrs. McLelland
also has 19 step-grandchildren and 15 step-great-grandchildren.
Pearl was preceded in death by her siblings, Mattie C. Walker, Lois C. Ingle, Clyde Clapp, Freida C. Wilson, Fred W. Clapp and a son-in-law, Walter E. Pope.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Elon Community Church, where Pearl was a member. Officiating will be the Rev. Randy Orwig. Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday evening, from 6 until 8 at Rich and Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington. Other times they will be at the residence.
