John Philip Boone


    BURLINGTON — Mr. John Philip Boone, 82, of 1718 Burch Bridge Road, Burlington died at his residence on Monday, June 22, 2009 at 10:45 a.m. following one year of failing health and one week critical illness.
    A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Vera Baulding Boone, who survives and the son of Mack Boone and Lou Dean Westmoreland Boone, both deceased.
    He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He retired from Western Electric Company and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Communications Workers of America (CWA). Mr. Boone was a charter member of Faith United Methodist Church where he was past president of the Methodist Men and a member of the Board of Trustees.
    In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include three daughters, Nancy Ray and husband Stanley, Deborah Aldridge and husband Kenneth and Libby Smith and husband Roger, all of Burlington; six grandchildren, Elizabeth Aldridge Boney and husband Jon, Amy Ray Chinnici and husband Jim, Ashleigh Aldridge Wood and husband Joey, Joseph Ray, Ryan Smith and Matthew Smith; four great-grandchildren, Alex Chinnici, Bruce Boney, Connor Chinnici and J. J. Wood; and two sisters, Mary Graham Loy of Burlington and Jane McGavran of Carmen, Idaho.
    The funeral service will be conducted at Faith United Methodist Church on Thursday, June 25, 2009 at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Delores Langley. Burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park. The body will be taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.
    The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. and at other times they will be at the residence.
