Clyde Wayne Cable BURLINGTON — Mr. Clyde Wayne Cable, 90, of Burlington died at his residence on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at 1:40 p.m.
Mr. Cable was born June 24, 1918 in Burlington and was the son of the late Grover and Girley Cable. He was a major in the United States Army and a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, serving in occupied Japan. He was with the U. S. Postal Service for 23 years. Mr. Cable was a 32nd Degree Mason with the Bula Masonic Lodge #409 A.F. & A.M. and served as treasurer for 21 years. He was a very active member of his church at West Burlington which became the First United Methodist Church, Elon holding many positions. He was honored as a life member of the Methodist Men where he served as past president.
Survivors include his wife and Texan bride of 66 years, Lillian Striegler Cable of the home; his son, Michael Cable and wife, Susan of Greenville; six grandchildren, Beverly Voellinger, Marie Penk and husband, Dan, Matthew Cable and wife, Charlena, Jackie Austin and husband, Bill, Morgan Cable and Shannon Cable; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Frank Cable of Burlington; a daughter-inlaw, Joanne Cable of Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Clyde Wayne Cable Jr. and three siblings, Helen Holt, Alvin Cable and Hazel Cable.
The funeral service will be conducted at the First United Methodist Church of Elon on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Terry Huffines. Masonic graveside rites will be held at Pine Hill Cemetery immediately following the service.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Friday from 5 until 7 p.m. At other times, they will be at the residence.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Elon, Ministry Budget, P.O. Box 923, Elon, N.C. 27244; to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215; or to a charity of one’s choice.
Members of Bula Lodge #409 A.F. & A.M. will meet in emergent communication at the First United Methodist Church of Elon at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday for the purpose of conducting Masonic Graveside Rites.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to a caretaker and friend, Judy Blonge, Hospice, his church family, and Lodge members.
Within his family, there are 113 years of military service of which he was very proud. He was the happiest of men and his family was his greatest joy.
