William “Billy” Howerton GIBSONVILLE — William “Billy” Howerton, 92, passed away on Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, after several months of failing health.
A native of Guilford County, he was the son of the late Edgar Weldon Howerton and the late Harriett Jeanette Gerringer Howerton and was married for over 72 years to Frances Stallings Howerton, who survives.
Billy was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Air Corps during World War II. He retired as the produce manager of Food World after several years of service. Billy was a longtime member of Frieden’s Lutheran Church where he was a member of the Hite Sunday School Class, served on the church cemetery committee and was an usher. He enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family.
Billy is survived by his wife of the home; two sons, William Ronald Howerton and his wife, Georgette, of Suwanee, Ga. and Billy Keith “Bill” Howerton and his wife, Wadeene “Dean,” of Gibsonville; six grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nine great-stepgrandchildren; two great-greatgrandchildren; a brother, Garland Daniel Howerton of Gibsonville; and a sonin-law, James “Jim” Dunn of Gibsonville. He was preceded
in death by his parents; a daughter, Barbara Dunn; two sons, Jimmy
Dale Howerton and infant, David Howerton; a sister, Bessie Lamar; and fi ve brothers, Woodrow Wilson Howerton, Vance “V.J.” Howerton, L. M. Howerton, Neil Howerton and Paul Franklin Howerton.
The graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at Frieden’s Lutheran Church Cemetery by the Rev. William Zima. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall and other times at the residence.
