Ora Mae Lowe
BURLINGTON — Ora Mae Lowe , age 81, of 2857 Durham Street Extension, Burlington, N.C., passed away on Wednesday, November 7, 2007.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Irvin "Pete" Lowe , and daughter of the late Joseph Lester Loy and Kinnie Horner Loy.
She began her career at the old Rainey Street Hospital in Burlington as a laboratory technician under the guidance and direction of James B. Powell, founder of Biomedical Reference Laboratories, which is now Laboratory Corporation of America, retiring in 1992 from the Special Chemistry Department. In her spare time, she was a member of Senior Advantage, Senior Walkers, delivered Meals on Wheels and volunteered at Alamance Regional Medical Center. Her greatest joy and accomplishment was being a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. She was a lifelong member of Shallow Ford United Church of Christ in Elon, North Carolina, which was founded by her great-grandfather in 1870 and was a very active member in the church during her lifetime.
Survivors include daughters, Cindy Hall and husband, Rick, Linda Clark; three grandchildren, Brad Hall, Lori Sellers, and Stephanie Cleckler; five great-grandchildren; brother, Joseph "Joe" L. Loy Jr., and wife, Sylvia; and sister, Frances Wright of Baltimore, Maryland.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Garland T. Loy and Richard Loy; sisters, Virgie Wilson and Margaret Crouse.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home, and at other times the family will be at the home of the daughter, Cindy Hall, 609 West Ridge Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, 2007, in the Chapel of Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory by Chaplain Ebbie Murray, with a solo by her brother, Joseph "Joe" Loy Jr. Burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family wishes to especially thank Alamance Health Care Center for their loving kindness shown to our mother in her recent illness, also Hospice of Alamance/Caswell County.
