Jerry Hughes Overby  Sr.


    MEBANE — Jerry Overby  died December 22, after several years of battling lung disease.
    Born March 20, 1942, in Hillsborough, Jerry  was raised in Orange and Durham counties. He graduated from Hillsborough High School and immediately joined the U.S. Air Force. As a Vietnam Veteran, Jerry  spent 30 years in the Air Force, mainly in the JAG service and retired at the rank of MSGT. After retirement, Jerry  joined the team of GE Mebane. He retired from GE in 2001. Jerry  is a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Mebane.
    Jerry  is survived by his wife, Nancy Overby ; three children, Jerry  D. Overby  of Kannapolis, Linda O. Lopez and J. Overby , both of Laredo, Texas; a stepdaughter, Rachel Barbee; a stepson, Jeremy Barbee; and a grandchild, Erika Overby . Jerry  is also survived by his father, Herman H. Overby  Sr.; stepmother, Delores K. Stinson; two brothers, Thomas G. (Pete) Brown and Pete Overby ; three sisters, Linda B. Forrester, Donna O. Hall and Deborah O. Davies; as well as 16 nieces and nephews.
    Jerry  is predeceased by his mother, Helen A. Brown; a stepsister, Kay Langley Slaughter; and three brothers, Larry H. Overby , Richard K. Kimbro and Roy N. Overby .
    Jerry  will lay in wake at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane on Thursday, December 27, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Jerry  will receive full military honors in a funeral service at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 28, at Eastside Baptist Church in Mebane, officiated by Pastor Chuck Perkins, followed by Graveside Rites at Alamance Memorial Park in Burlington.
    Jerry’s  incredible love of life and passionate spirituality made him unforgettable to those with whom he came into contact. His never-ending smile will be missed, but not forgotten.
    Memorials may be made to the Veterans of Foreign War, Mebane Chapter, in honor of Jerry’s  love of his country and support of his military brothers and sisters, 301 E. Jackson St., Mebane, N.C., 27302. 3, Jerry Hughes Overby  Sr.
