Shelton Summers

BURLINGTON - Shelton Odell Summers, 91, passed away Sunday, April 15, 2018 at the Hospice Home surrounded by his family. He was born on February 5, 1927 in Guilford County to the late Cornelius Lofton Summers and Effie Wyrick Summers; and was the husband to Alice Lee Cates Summers of 46 years who survives.

Shelton retired from Big Star Foods as an assistant manager. He was a WWII US Army veteran and a member of New Hope Baptist Church. Shelton’s lifetime hobby was tending to his farm animals and being outdoors.

Survivors other than his wife, Alice Cates Summers include his children and spouses, Brenda and Mack Overman, Sue and James Duggins, Cathy and Stacy Price, Ann Martin and friend, Gerald Sumner, Steven Summers, Tonya and Andy McCoy; 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Howard and Sharon Summers, Johnny and Jean Summers; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, James “Bud” Summers and Dean Summers; grandsons, Chad Summers and Donald Hathaway, Jr.; sister, Mildred Williams and a infant brother.

The funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, April 19, 2018 at New Hope Baptist Church by Pastor Randy Hobbs and Rev. Steven Langley with the burial to follow in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at New Hope Baptist Church and other times at the residence.
