Hurley Ford Cooke
   BURLINGTON — Hurley Ford Cooke, 88, of Burlington, passed away at 1:15 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, at the Hospice Home after a lengthy illness.

   A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Rebecca Holt “Becky” Cooke and the son of the late Lawrence Lee Cooke and the late Dolly Russell Cooke. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II with the 243rd Combat Engineers in France and Germany where he earned the rank of staff sergeant. After serving in the Army, he retired as a carpenter. He was a member of Belmont Baptist Church.

   In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by his son, Lawrence C. Cooke, of the home; his sister, Mrs. Nellie C. Massey and her husband, Calvin, of Burlington; and his brother, R. Lynn Cooke, also of Burlington.

   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven sisters, Doris C. Hogan, Mattie Belle Stout, Annie Shepard, Peggy Cauthren, Louise Isley, Mary Lois Murray and Patty Parrish; and two brothers, Dwight L. Cook and Kermit Cook.

   The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011, at 3 p.m. at Belmont Baptist Church conducted by the Revs. Larry Janey and Jerry Jackson.The burial will immediately follow the funeral service in the church cemetery.

   The family will receive friends before the service at Belmont Baptist Church from 2 until 3 p.m. At other times, the family will be at the residence.

   Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative

   Care Center of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215. The family would like to thank the Hospice staff for all their care of Hurley Cooke.
