Evelyn King Smith

September 12, 1924 ~ December 27, 2019 (age 95)

Evelyn King Smith, 95, died at the Village at Brookwood on Friday, December 27, 2019.
She was born in Alamance County to Ada Rascoe King and George Freeman King, both deceased.  She was married to John Lacy Smith on April 12, 1943 until his death in 2003.
She was a member of Camp Springs Methodist Church where she held numerous positions in service to her church.  Until her retirement, she was employed by the American Tobacco Company in Reidsville, NC.
Survivors include a daughter, Karon Matkins, of Burlington and a son, Ronald Smith and wife Carol of Burlington.  She is survived by four grandchildren:  Dr. Jay Matkins and wife Dr. Preeti Matkins of Charlotte, NC; Brett Matkins and wife, Karol of Rowayton, CT; Jessica Smith of Asheville, NC and Emma Mann and husband Cody of Canton, NC;  four great-grandchildren:  Jack, Katie, Landon and Grant Matkins.  Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Margaret Barber of Gibsonville.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Edgar King and sisters, Jennie Underwood, Maggie Moore, Edna Gwyn, Elma St.Clair, Bertha Phillips and Dorothy King.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Friday, January 3, 2020 from 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM.  A service will follow in the Mausoleum at Alamance Memorial Park at 1:00 PM.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Village at Brookwood and Hospice for their loving care and support.
