Inez Turner Rudd
SUMTER, S.C. — Inez Turner Rudd, 94, entered the church triumphant Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011, at Coveant Place in Sumter, S.C., following a 30-year struggle with Alzheimer’s.
Born in Burlington, N.C., Inez was the wife of Charlie Wilson Rudd for almost 59 years. Many afternoons were spent on the patio swinging in the porch swing Charlie had made for them. Inez was retired from Tower Hosiery Mill. An avid baker, Inez enjoyed her little cake business of selling cakes off the kitchen side porch to family and friends. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where her granddaughter’s husband is the pastor.
She is survived by her son, Charlie Wilson Rudd Jr., and his wife Mary and their children, Alex, A.J. and Abby; her son-in-law, Raymond L. Burke; her granddaughter and husband Rev. Dr. and Mrs. Mark and Angie Durrett and their children, Sam and his wife Emily, and Ned Durrett.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charlie Wilson Rudd; her daughter, Earlene Rudd Burke (Oct. 2010); her great-grandson, Stephen Burke Rice (Oct. 2009), and her four brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in the chapel with Dr. MarkE.Durrettofficiating.Her body will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Burlington N.C. Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends following the church service in the church parlor and cards may be sent to the home, 405 Veranda Drive, Sumter, S.C., 29150.
