Franklin "Sonny" London Oakley 

    BURLINGTON, NC — Franklin "Sonny" London Oakley , 74, of 4417 Birch Bridge Road went home to be with the Lord after three weeks failing health and one week critical illness at UNC Hospital. He was a native of Caswell County and the husband of fifty three years to Gladys Stanfield Oakley  who survives.

He was the son of the late Dewey Clarence and Savannah Kimbro Oakley .

    Sonny retired from Lorillard Tobacco Company in Greensboro and was a US Army veteran serving during the Korean War.

He was a member of Lakeview Community Church where he was a former Deacon and served on the Board of Trustees and was an usher.

Sonny was devoted to his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He loved baseball and all types of music from Southern Gospel to Bluegrass and Country.

Sonny and Gladys took trips throughout the year to Myrtle Beach to spend time with their beach friends.

    Survivors include his wife, Gladys Stanfield Oakley  of the home; daughter and son-inlaw, Teresa and Gary Jones of Elon; son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Dazel Oakley  of Elon; grandchildren, Brent Jones, Shannon and Katie Oakley ; great grandson, Chandler Oakley ; step grandchildren, Jandy Andrews and Holly Hester; step great grandchildren, Jocelyn Andrews, Jillian Andrews and Kody Leigh; sisters, Mary Reagan and Jeanette Talley both of Burlington; brothers, William, Richard and Leon Oakley  all of Burlington.

    The funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Lakeview Community Church by Rev. Reid Dickens, pastor and assisted by Rev. Matt Smith, associate pastor at Bethlehem Christian Church and burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence.
