Gladys Stanfield Oakley


ELON - Gladys Stanfield Oakley, 82 went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 16, 2017 at the hospice home surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Franklin “Sonny” London Oakley and the daughter of the late Jasper Cleveland and Ruthie Chandler Stanfield.

Gladys retired as a Payroll clerk. She was a member of Faith Christian Church and a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Jones and husband, Gary and a son, Barry Oakley and daughter-inlaw, Dazel Oakley; grandson, Brent Oakley and wife, Bethany; granddaughters, Katie Summers and husband, Brandon and Shannon Whitfield and husband, Justin; great grandchildren, Bennett, Oakley, Chandler, Presley, Evan and Autumn Grace; brothers, Eurell Stanfield and wife, Hilda and Ervin Stanfield and wife, Polly; sisters, Lillie Stevenson and Betty Woodson and a special niece, Kathleen Gentry.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Hospice for their kind and compassionate care for Gladys during her illness.

A service to celebrate her life will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Reid Dickens. The burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45 p.m. Wednesday prior to the services at the funeral home and other times at the home of Teresa Jones.
