James William Oakley
BURLINGTON – James William Oakley, 87, passed away at home on Tuesday, January 14, 2020. He was born on November 24, 1932 in Caswell County to the late Dewey Clarence Oakley and Savanah Kimbro Oakley, and was the husband of 65 years to Norma Smith Oakley who survives.
William retired after 38 years from P. Lorillard. He was a member of Shallow Ford Christian Church.
Survivors other than his wife, Norma Oakley include his daughters, Cheryl Oakley and Wendy Oakley; grandchildren, Lauren Carden Evans, Sydney Ward (Jimmy) Sidon and Will Gaston Carden; great grandchildren, Breanna Evans, Lily Sidon and baby girl Sidon; sister, Mary Lillian Reagan; brothers, Richard “Buck” (Brenda) Oakley and Leon (Sue) Oakley. He was preceded in death by a son, James Craig Oakley; parents; brother, F.L. “Sonny” Oakley; and a sister, Jeanette Talley.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Shallow Ford Christian Church by Rev. Steve Regan with burial to follow in Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7pm Friday evening at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the home.
