Mr. Herbert Elwood Stanfield


    BURLINGTON — Mr. Herbert Elwood Stanfield, 89, of 428 Stanfield Road, passed away Monday, January 26, 2009 at his home after several weeks of failing health.
    A native of Caswell County, he was the son of the late Ira Samuel Stanfield and the late Fannie Page Stanfield and was married to Mrs. Sara Lea Iseley Stanfield, who passed away in 2007. He was a retired tobacco farmer and attended Baynes Baptist Church. He was a longtime member of the Southern Caswell Ruritan Club. Mr. Stanfield was a humble and well-respected man and will be missed by all who knew him.
    Mr. Stanfield is survived by four daughters, Barbara S. Massey and her husband, Willie, of Elon, Brenda Stanfield and Betty S. Andrews, both of Burlington and Patricia S. Newcomer and her husband, Keith, of Fuquay-Varina; four sons, David Elwood Stanfield of the home, Stephen M. Stanfield and his wife, Tommie, John I. Stanfield and his wife, Becky, and Tom W. Stanfield and his wife, Cindy, all of Burlington; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Inez S. Robertson of Reidsville, Eva S. Myers and Alma S. Cardella, both of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Dean Stanfield; and his sister, Josephine S. Butler.
    The funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, January 29, 2009 at Baynes Baptist Church by the Rev. Scott Williams. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home.
    The Stanfield family would like to extend a special thanks to Mrs. Gail Perkins for her loving care and support for Mr. Stanfield.
