Dorothy Sue Simmons Stainback Herndon


    BURLINGTON — Mrs. Dorothy Sue Simmons Stainback Herndon, 82, of 11797 N.C. 62 South, Burlington, died at her residence on Tuesday, May 20, 2008, following a short illness.
    A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of the late Walter Willard Stainback and George Malcolm Herndon and the daughter of Porter Gold Simmons and Minnie Alice Terrell Simmons, both deceased. She was a textile employee for over 50 years and retired from Fairystone Mills in Glen Raven. Mrs. Herndon was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Caswell Ward, where she was a visiting teacher for the Relief Society and a Cub Scout Den Mother.
    Survivors include her daughter, Linda Loftis and husband, Donald, of Burlington; two sons, Gary Stainback and wife, Debra, of Burlington, and Ray Stainback and wife, Endi, of Abilene, Texas; six grandchildren, Kay Adkins and husband, Michael, Andrea Childress and husband, Calvin, Megan Boswell and husband, Terry, Julie Stainback, Glen Delosprico and Prissa Mae Delosprico; seven great-grandchildren, Emily, Ben and Wyatt Adkins and Paul, Patrick, Jonathan and Natalie Childress; eight brothers and sisters, Claudia Clayton and husband, Thomas, of Yanceyville, Leona Mize of Leasburg, Elsie Overman and husband, George, of Burlington, Alice Harrison of Burlington, Mildred Davis of Asheboro, Jimmy Simmons and wife, Sheryl, Clifton Simmons and wife, Jewel, and Gilbert Simmons and wife, Ann, all of Burlington; and a sister-in-law, Louise Simmons of Burlington.
    She was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Houston Simmons.
    The funeral will be conducted at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Caswell Ward on Friday, May 23, 2008 at 2 p.m. by Bishop Scott Oakley. Burial will follow in Bethel United Church of Christ cemetery.
    The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 until 2 p.m. prior to the service on Friday, and at other times they will be at the residence.
    Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215.
