BURLINGTON — Mr. Malloy Daniel McKinney, 94, of Burlington, died at his residence Saturday, June 8, 2013, at 8:40 p.m.
A native of Caswell County, he was the husband of Berthalene Ward McKinney, who survives, and the son of John Allen McKinney and Minnie Alice Rudd McKinney, both deceased. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. Malloy retired as a District Manager from Bamby Bakery Inc. After retirement, he worked as a courier for Byrd’s Food Stores Inc. and as a courier for what is now known as Capitol Bank. He was a member of Shiloh Presbyterian Church and former member of Northside Presbyterian Church. While at Northside Presbyterian Church, he sang in the choir and was an Elder and a Deacon. Malloy was a member of the Burlington Lion’s Club, having served as “Tail Twister” for many years.
In addition to his wife of their home, survivors include a daughter, Sandra McKinney Harris and husband, Gwyn, of SmithMountain Lake, Va.; son, Danny McKinney and wife, Holly, of Durham; sister, Pauline Minor Murray of Elon; brother, Hassel McKinney of Burlington; four grandchildren, Ryan Harris and wife, Erin, of Roanoke, Va., Marc Harris and wife, Jane, of Saunderstown, R.I., Jordan McKinney and Lauren McKinney, both of Durham; and four great-grandchildren, Mason and MacKenzie Harris of Roanoke, Va., and Elena and Jude Harris, of Saunderstown, R.I. The funeral service will be conducted at Shiloh Presbyterian
Church on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. by the Rev. Carl Parsons. Burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park. The body will be taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service to lie in state.
The family will receive friends at the Rich &Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. Other times they will be at the residence.
The family requests that the Burlington Lions Club be honorary pallbearers.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Angie, Melissa and Phoebe of Hospice for their compassionate care and concern.
