Harold Gray Rudd
GREENSBORO — Harold Gray Rudd, 83, went home to be with Jesus Monday, September 21, 2009, at his home.
An 11 a.m. funeral service will be held Thursday, September 24, 2009, at Forbis & Dick North Elm Chapel with the Rev. Carl Shelton officiating. A military graveside will follow at the Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery. The military service will be performed by The Rockingham County Honor Guard.
A Guilford County native, Harold Gray Rudd was born April 26, 1926 to the late Alexander Lee and the late Mary Ellis Rudd. Harold was of the Baptist faith. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and participated in The Battle of The Bulge. He married Lelia Waynick Rudd on June 27, 1947 and was a very loving and caring husband. Harold Gray Rudd retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation as Road Supervisor in 1983, after 37 years service. He was a lifetime member of the Midway Monroeton VFW Post # 8297. For the past 18 years he and Lelia enjoyed an annual trip to Myrtle Beach. They made this trip each year with several couples from South Carolina, Virginia and Browns Summit, N.C. He always enjoyed the company of all his friends, which included co-workers, fishing buddies, and neighbors.
Harold Gray Rudd is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Lelia Waynick Rudd, of the home; godson, Jeffrey Harold Evans; his sister, Marjorie R. Carroll of Greensboro; sister-in law, Evelyn C. Rudd of Greensboro; special sisterin-law, Magdalene Gerringer of Burlington; several loving nieces and nephews; and special friend, Renea Groce. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mary R. Carter and Ruth R. Smith; two brothers, Frank Rudd and Clyde Rudd.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2009, at Forbis & Dick North Elm Street Chapel and at other times at the family home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Lebanon Baptist Church, Cemetery Fund, at 4635 Hicone Road, Greensboro, N.C. 27405 or Browns Summit Baptist Church at 4811 Hicone Road, Greensboro, N.C, 27405.
