Mrs. Nettie Mae Rudd Newman


    MEBANE — Mrs. Nettie Mae Rudd Newman, 76, of 518 Carr St., died Saturday, July 12, 2008, at Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington after several years of declining health.
    A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of George E. Newman Jr., who survives, and the daughter of the late Walter Jones Rudd and the late Edna Smith Rudd.
    Mrs. Newman was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mebane and she was a former employee of Burlington Industries.
    In addition to her husband, George, of the home, she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Diane T. May, of Seneca, S.C.; one brother, Raymond Rudd of Burlington; two granddaughters, Cynthia Sternberg and Jessica May; and one greatgrandson, Ethan Block.
    A graveside service will be held Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at 11 a.m. in Oakwood Cemetery in Mebane. Officiating will be the Rev. Marvin Simpson.
    The family will receive friends at the Rich and Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Graham, Monday evening from 6 until 8. Other times they will be at the residence.
    The family requests that potted plants be omitted from floral tributes. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
