Mr. Edgar Franklin Poteat
    BURLINGTON — Mr. Edgar Franklin Poteat, 85, of 1324 Tucker St., died at 5:20 p.m. Monday, May 31, 2004, at the Hospice and Palliative Care Home of Burlington after a brief illness.
    A native of Caswell County, he was the husband of the late Joyce Simpson Poteat, and the son of the late Robert Anderson Poteat and Annie Elizabeth Smith Poteat. He was retired from Associated Transport and attended Lowe Memorial Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Bartlett Yancey High School, a member of the Teamsters Union, past Governor of the Burlington Moose Lodge #649, a member of the Tarheel Legion of the Moose, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in Rhineland and Central Europe. He received the Victory Medal, American Defense Service Medal, the American Theater Campaign Medal, the Eamet Campaign Medal, two Bronze Stars, and the Good Conduct Medal AR-600-68.
    Survivors include two sons, Mr. Van Poteat of the home and Mr. Robin Poteat of Del Rio, Texas, who was preceded in death by his wife, Heidi; three grandchildren, Rachel Poteat and Zach Poteat, both of Del Rio, and Chris Adams and wife, Angela, of Weaver, Ala.; a brother, Mr. Huston Poteat and wife, Ruby, of Reidsville; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Hazel Poteat and Mrs. Theo Poteat; a special friend, Phyllis Grigg of Graham; and a special friend of Van, Julie Neese of Burlington.
    He was preceded in death by five brothers, Mr. Fred Poteat, Mr. Wilson Poteat, Mr. Sterling Poteat, Mr. Preston Poteat, and Mr. Louis Poteat.
    The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 2004, at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington by the Rev. Bill Gindlesperger. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
    The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the residence.
    Memorials may be made to Lowe Memorial Baptist Church, 1712 W. Webb Ave., Burlington, N.C. 27217 or to Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell, 918 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215.
