Glenn Wendell Farrell

GRAHAM - Glenn Wendell Farrell, 97, of Graham passed away at the Hospice Home in Burlington on Sunday, August 15, 2021.

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of the late Laura“Peggy” Boggs Farrell and the son of the late Fred M. Farrell and the late Della Phillips Farrell.

After retiring from Burlington Industries, he later owned and operated Farrell’s Food Mart in Holden Beach, NC. He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church since 1961 and served as a Deacon.

Glenn served in the United States Army where he became a member of the 35th Division, 134th Infantry, Company I as a PFC and was sent overseas to fight inWorld War II. In 1944, he stormed Normandy as part of the 4th wave. During his time in the Army he received several honors including 4 Bronze Stars, a Presidential Citation and 2medals for expert rifleman. In 2015, Glenn was awarded the French Legion of Honor Medal from the French Consulate.

His survivors include his daughter, Cynthia Rich of Haw River; sons, Phillip G.“Butch” Farrell and his wife Debbie of Mebane and GeneW. Farrell and his wife Patricia of Graham, five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by brothers; Woody Farrell and Duard Farrell; sisters, Nina Roney, Stella Landis and Alberta Brant; and son-in-law, Bobby Rich.

His funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at Riverside Baptist Church by the Rev. Bob Stephenson. The body will lie in state at the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Military graveside rites will be held at Graham Memorial Park immediately after the funeral service.

The family respectfully request that those attending wear masks and practice social distancing.
