Gloria Matkins DeMarra
BURLINGTON – Mrs. Gloria Matkins DeMarra, 91, of Burlington, passed away at her residence on Wednesday, August 23, 2017.
A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of the late John R. “Jack” De-Marra, Sr. and daughter of the late Lemuel Gibbons Matkins, Sr. and Lydia Fitch Matkins.
Gloria was a school teacher for 32 years and retired from the Burlington School System.
She was a member of Front Street United Methodist Church where she was formerly active in the Women’s Circle of the Church.
Gloria graduated from Appalachian State University.
Surviving is a daughter, Janie DeMarra of Mebane. Gloria was preceded in death by a son: John R. De-Marra, Jr.; three sisters, Annie M. Barker, Ila M. Terrell and Lois M. Brannock; and seven brothers, Clarence Matkins, L. G. Matkins, Worth Matkins, Coy Matkins, Norris Matkins, Leonard F. Matkins and William Matkins.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, August 27, at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington with Rev. Jimmy Nickelston officiating.
Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:45 – 2:45 p.m. prior to the service. At other times, they will be at the residence.
