John R. “Jack” DeMarra
   BURLINGTON — Mr. John R. “Jack” DeMarra Sr., 88, of 423 Shadowbrook Drive, Burlington, died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, at his residence.

   A native of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Mr. DeMarra was the husband of Gloria Matkins DeMarra, who survives and the son of the late John E. DeMarra and the late Alma Lonkoski De-Marra.

   Mr. DeMarra was a graduate of North Carolina State University and retired from AT&T. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Pacifi c Theater of Operations during World War II. He also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

   Mr. DeMarra was a member of Front Street United Methodist Church and was active in the Tuesday Morning Bible Study. He was Past Master of Bula Masonic Lodge #409 A.F. and A.M.

   In addition to his wife, Gloria, of the home, Mr. DeMarra is survived by his daughter, Janie DeMarra of Mebane and two cousins, Robert Frye and Gilbert Frye, both of Lancaster, Pa.

   Mr. DeMarra was preceded in death by his son, John R. DeMarra Jr.

   A funeral service will be held Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington. Offi ciating will be the Rev. Marshall Old and Mr. Robert Southard. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery with military honors.

   The family will receive friends at the residence.
