W.T. "Bill" Simpson


    BURLINGTON — Mr. W. T. "Bill" Simpson, 80, of 2717 Bedford Street, Burlington, died at the Hospice Home in Burlington on Thursday, November 20, 2008 at 3:25 a.m.

    A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Molly Holland Simpson, who survives, and the son of James V. Simpson and Beulah Matkins Simpson, both deceased.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps serving during World War II in China.

He was a graduate of N.C. State University and a member of Phi Kappa Alpha Fraternity.

He retired as an Industrial Engineer with the textile industry.

He was a member of St. Mark’s Church.

Prior to his death, Mr. Simpson was very active and served on the Board of Directors for the Alamance County Habitat for Humanity. Mr. Simpson attained the rank of Eagle Scout and in his later years, volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America. Other than his family, his passion in life was to visit and give support to shutins and sick individuals.

    In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include his daughter, Mrs. Holly Cole and husband, Jerry, of Lenoir; three sons, Mr. William Tate Simpson Jr. and wife, Terri, of Suwanee, Ga., Mr. James Scott Simpson and wife, Kassie, of Plantation, Fla., and Mr. Allan Brent Simpson and wife, Andra, of Burlington; one sister, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Fearing of Manteo; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Ann Simpson and Carolyn Simpson Lupo.

    The funeral will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Ben Bishop. The family will greet friends immediately following the service. The burial will be private.
